I spent the weekend carefully scraping layers of old paint off the window frames in my 1860s house. The original wavy glass panes are still intact, but the wood had rotted in a few spots. I mixed my own linseed oil putty for the glazing, just like they did back then. It's slow work, but seeing the original craftsmanship re-emerge is deeply satisfying.
